Bringing key partners around the table
Church Street Management has brought together key service providers such as Westminster Adult Education Service, City Of Westminster College, Jobcentre Plus, Children Centres, Paddington Waterside, Learning and Skills Council, Connexions, Paddington Development Trust, Neighbourhood Enterprise Centre, and the neighbourhood management bodies for the wards of Harrow Road, Queen's Park and Westbourne.
The Church Street training and employment advisory panel has organised the following:
Apprenticeship event
This aimed to give Westminster's businesses and key players in Westminster a better understanding of apprenticeship and how apprentices can benefit them. Since the event, a number of apprenticeships have been offered to local people.
Reach Ur Destination
In partnership with Connections and Genesis Housing, Church Street Neighbourhood Management organised an event for young people that specially targeted NEETs (Not in Education, Employment or Training). This was an opportunity to find out about suitable courses and to discuss apprenticeships and other training opportunities with employers such as BT, British Gas, Balfour Beatty and the Royal Air Force.
Focus groups
We have organised focus groups in the nieghbourhood. One, for example, targeted just men with a view to find out why take up of courses was so low. A report was drawn up from the findings and this will help inform relevant partners on some of the perceived barriers to education and training.
Ways into Work
CityWest Homes holds an annual training and employment fair in Church Street. The Neighbourhood Management team worked in partnership with Jobcentre Plus to publicise the event.
