Children and young people

Key successes include . . .

Support to London Tigers
The Church Street Community Sports Programme received funding from Church Street Neighbourhood Management for four years. The organisation has gone from strength to strength in that time and provides a wide range of sporting and leisure opportunities for local young people.

Young Advisors Project
A team of eight young people have been trained and supported to involve young people in the work of Church Street Neighbourhood Management. Young people are part of the local community and so need to be part of creating the solution to long-term problems within the neighbourhood. Work they have done includes:

Young Men's Outreach Project
Some young men living in the Church Street ward are not in work or training and are involved in antisocial behaviour. A street-based youth worker engages with these young men and encourages and supports them to take the necessary steps to change their lives.

Partnership work between Connexions and the City Guardians
Connexions is the statutory agency which provides advice to young people about training and work opportunities. Previously there was little local understanding of its role and it had a poor reputation. Now the City Guardians, who through their ongoing patrols of the neighbourhood know young people well, do regular walk-abouts with Connexions staff and work closely with the neighbourhood Connexions worker.
